Join us for food, music and a panel discussion on Mice Against Ticks!
Tuesday, August 7 at 5:30pm at the Nantucket Atheneum
In a public presentation, MIT biologist Dr. Kevin Esvelt, Johns Hopkins bioethicist Dr. Ruth Faden, Harvard immunologist Dr. Duane Wesemann and Tufts infectious disease expert Dr. Sam Telford will discuss Mice Against Ticks, a community-guided project which aims to reduce the number of disease-carrying ticks on Nantucket by enlisting our local white-footed mice. The New Yorker’s Michael Specter will lead a panel discussion about community-guided science and the ethical implications of altering our shared environment to reduce tick-borne disease. The meeting will include lightning talks on the cutting-edge science behind Mice Against Ticks and public Q&A. Ask your questions to the lead scientists involved in the effort and join the conversation in this evening program about biotechnology, bioethics and the fight against tick-borne disease!
Refreshments provided by the Nantucket Culinary Center. Special musical appearance by Coq au Vin!
